Kaduna State Government has condemned those it described as criminal elements in the society who were reported to be selling forms to residents to enable them register with the State Social Register and benefit from government intervention programmes.
Government said any interventions for the most vulnerable in our society were free and urged people to ignore those allegedly selling such forms. “Members of the public are hereby informed that there are no forms on sale under any guise for palliatives or social register,” Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Muhammad Lawal Shehu, said in a press statement.
“Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, is committed to ensuring that palliatives or any kind of interventions get to the true beneficiaries,” Lawal Shehu said, adding that the governor had set up the KDSG Palliatives Committee, which came up with modalities for the distribution of palliatives. The committee comprised representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, other members of the Organized Labour, religious and traditional leaders, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Persons with Disabilities, Local Government Chairmen, Youth and Women Groups.
He said as for the State Social Register, which aimed at capturing the underprivileged members of society, residents of Kaduna State are encouraged to contact their respective local government councils for information on the processes to be captured in the Kaduna State Social Register.
Mallam Shehu explained that the Kaduna State Social Register is the database of the poor and vulnerable households in the state, meant to identify beneficiaries of targeted social protection programmes and other interventions from the government.
“Members of the public are also urged to be extremely vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or diversion of palliatives to the authorities closest to them, as all offenders, when apprehended, will be prosecuted according to the law,” the statement added.
