Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has stressed the need for local government chairmen and councillors to meet regularly to discuss security issues and take proactive actions to create an environment conducive for investment and development in the state.
Governor Sani made this call on Tuesday, 17th October 2023, during an interactive meeting with the 23 local government chairmen and councillors, held at Umaru Musa Yarádua Hall, Murtala Square, Kaduna.
Governor Sani directed the local government heads to conduct regular security meetings bi-weekly or monthly in their respective councils. He emphasized the significance of partnering with religious and traditional leaders to improve intelligence gathering and combat emerging security challenges such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and other social vices.
“I urge you to support and work closely with security agencies and provide them with the necessary information needed in carrying out their duties. I also want to thank you for working with the state government in the recruitment of over seven thousand personnel of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service,” Governor Sani added.
He drew attention to the negative impact of rural-urban migration on rural development and urged the local government chairmen to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to tackle this issue.
Acknowledging the significance of the rural economy, Governor Sani assured the leaders of his administration’s commitment to identifying and resolving the challenges faced by farmers to promote rural development as part of his initiative for rural transformation.
On financial inclusion, Governor Sani expressed concern about the high number of underserved and vulnerable individuals in the state. He emphasized his commitment to addressing this, which was inherent in his first executive order on financial inclusion.
The Governor assured the local government chairmen that his administration would respect and uphold their autonomy. He encouraged them to utilize the resources at their disposal effectively to promote development within their respective local government areas.
In their response, the local government chairmen pledged their commitment to working closely with the state government to fulfill its 7-point SUSTAIN agenda, which focuses on rural economic transformation and overall development. They expressed their appreciation to the governor for his dedication to rural development and requested his consideration for essential projects within their respective councils.
